"Why are leading institutions so biased against fossil fuels?"

"Why are leading institutions so biased against fossil fuels?

"Because their operating 'anti-impact framework' causes them to view fossil fuels, which are inherently high impact, as intrinsically immoral and inevitably self-destructive.
...

"Our knowledge system’s opposition to fossil fuels while ignoring their enormous benefits can only be explained by it operating on an anti-human moral goal and standard of evaluation that regards benefits to human life as morally unimportant.

"Outside the realm of energy, an example of an anti-human moral goal at work is the scientists who, operating on the anti-human moral goal of animal equality, oppose animal testing for medical research and disregard its life-saving benefits to humans.

"The primary moral goal of our knowledge system that operates on energy issues is the anti-human goal of eliminating human impact on the rest of nature—a widely-held goal that is often disguised as merely eliminating only human-harming impacts.

"Our leading institutions' attempt to disguise their goal of eliminating all human impacts as eliminating only human-harming impacts by using vague terminology such as 'going green,' 'minimising environmental impact,' 'protecting the environment,' and 'saving the planet.'

"The goal of eliminating human impact necessarily drives our knowledge system’s opposition to cost-effective energy because cost-effective energy always significantly impacts nature.
...
"Our knowledge system ignores the benefits of cost-effective energy because on the anti-human standard, it is intrinsically immoral and its benefits are morally irrelevant.

"Our knowledge system catastrophises the negative side-effects of cost-effective energy because it views Earth as a 'delicate nurturer.'

"On the 'delicate nurturer' assumption, Earth naturally exists in a delicate, nurturing balance, with humans as 'parasite-polluters' whose impact can only destroy it ...

"The 'anti-impact framework' must be replaced by the 'human flourishing framework,' including the goal of advancing human flourishing ..."

“The Objectivist Ethics Part II” starts October 20

HBL
1 Share

In one week (on Oct. 20), I begin the live version of my new course on the second half of the phenomenal speech, “The Objectivist Ethics.”

The first 60 paragraphs of this speech concerned “meta-ethics”: the derivation of one’s life as one’s ultimate value and man’s survival qua man as the standard of moral value.

This course (TOE-2, for short) covers the actual content of the Objectivist ethics: the principled way of living that constitutes rational selfishness.

This is the subject of paragraphs 61 through the end (106), and we will have 12 half-hour classes that analyze carefully exactly what she is saying, why it comes where it does in the progression, and what its historic significance is.

Major topics:

  • the cardinal values and virtues
  • the fundamental virtue: rationality
  • the 6 derivative virtues: independence, integrity, honesty, justice, productiveness, pride
  • the basic social principle of Objectivism
  • the nature of emotions and the fundamentals of psychology
  • happiness—what it is, what it comes from, its relation to survival, why only the rational man can be happy
  • why taking desires as a primary leads to unending conflict and sacrifice as an inescapable absolute
  • the opposite of sacrifice: the trader principle, the division of labor
  • the non-initiation of force principle, government as rights-protector
  • laissez-faire capitalism as the morally ideal social system
  • the mystic, social, and subjective schools of ethics as variants of altruism
  • the choice confronting us: the morality of death (altruism) or the morality of life (egoism).

All these topics, which she described as being present “in barest essentials,” were contained in the final 25 to 30 minutes of her speech. The class will spend 6 hours on it, plus about 4 hours for Q&A.

Now for the mechanics. It’s 4 weeks, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) at 5 pm, with the lecture portion ending at 5:30. This format proved successful in TOE-1. It’s smaller bites, with greater frequency.

3 classes, MWF, for 4 consecutive weeks: October 20 – November 14.

Read all about it and register here:

Master Class on “The Objectivist Ethics” Part II

Note there are special discounts for those who enrolled in Part 1 or want to purchase Parts 1 & 2 together.

Some testimonials from those who participated in Part 1:

Allan Katz, MD: 5 Stars. I admire the precision, detail, and subtlety.

Dwight Austin: It’s a real treat to be in the presence of Harry’s mind and spirit of life.

Amesh Adalja, MD: Harry really demonstrated how AR’s approach and framework avoids the errors of other philosophers, like Hume and Kant.

Gordon Dickerson: I looked forward to every session. One of the best investments of $725 I have ever made.

Kimmel Shows Shocking Indifference to Plight of Young Black Men

Kanye West rocked the culture 20 years ago by claiming President George W. Bush didn’t care about black people.

YouTube Video

The rapper’s proof? The ugly fallout from Hurricane Katrina and the government’s inefficient response to the tragedy. True? False? The fact that President Bush played a sizable role in funding AIDS prevention across Africa suggests West was peddling Fake News before the term went viral.

Now, propagandist Jimmy Kimmel is not just ignoring the tragically high death toll for young black men in Chicago, he’s making it a laugh line on his ABC showcase.

Kimmel brought on far-Left Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker Tuesday to attack claims the Windy City’s crime problem is out of control.

Why?

President Donald Trump wants to bring National Guard members into the city to squelch the violence. He did just that in Washington, D.C., and crime rates plummeted. That city’s Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser initially scoffed at Trump’s plan but later endorsed it.

Pritzker, wearing a bulletproof vest, mocked the idea that his beloved Chicago has intractable crime problems.

“As you can see, there’s utter mayhem and chaos on the ground,” the Democrat said, repeating a progressive gimmick. Find a peaceful spot in an otherwise crime-ridden city and pretend it captures the overall mood.

Kimmel even prodded his audience to shoot their own misleading videos mocking big-city crime with the hashtag #ShowMeYourHellHole.

The trained seals in Kimmel’s audience yukked along with the governor’s prepared bit.

It’s the latest example of Kimmel and Pritzker tag-teaming to improve his presidential chances in 2028. The last time around, Kimmel tried to deflect from the governor’s obvious weight issue to boost his presidential dreams.

Now, Kimmel is denying reality, hoping his shrinking audience will take him at his word.

“There’s no hellscape that I’d rather be in,” Pritzker said at the end of his bit. Tell that to the families of so many young black men slaughtered in the city.

The numbers are staggering.

Over the Labor Day weekend, nearly 60 people were shot, and at least nine people were killed in Chicago. Under Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson, the city experienced 572 homicides in 2024, making it the deadliest U.S. city by total homicides for the 13th consecutive year.

The victims are typically black citizens by a wide margin.

Black people make up 80 percent of Chicago’s fatal shooting victims.

The larger issue? The Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies often camouflage larger problems. Reports say D.C. cops are pressured to hide crime statistics. More alarmng? High-profile attacks too often lead to little or no jail time.

The larger question should haunt this late-night host. Does Kimmel care about black people?

If he does, why is he so indifferent to the rising body count in the Windy City? Wouldn’t he welcome National Guard troops, politics aside, if it meant fewer young black men fell victim to gun violence?

And, by extension, why isn’t Gov. Pritzker more concerned about it? There’s a stark difference between the two, after all.

One is an alleged comedian pushing phony progressive talking points to his fans. The other runs an American state and dreams of being the next Commander in Chief.

Editor’s Note: It’s a brutal time to be an independent journalist, but it’s never been more necessary given the sorry state of the corporate press. If you’re enjoying Hollywood in Toto, I hope you’ll consider leaving a coin (or two) in our Tip Jar.
